Sanofi – Oceana Trials: A Unified Creative Strategy for Clinical Impact

Sanofi’s Immunology team commissioned Brandsymbol to develop clinical trial brand names and logos for a series of Phase 2 and 3 studies evaluating amlitelimab in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD). With six global trials planned, the challenge was to build a cohesive identity system that would enhance recognition, support recruitment, and reinforce the asset’s positioning.

To achieve this, Brandsymbol aligned the naming strategy with the scientific rationale behind amlitelimab—restoring balance and flow to the immune response—by introducing a unifying water theme. This approach created a visual and verbal ecosystem across all six studies while allowing each trial to retain a distinct name and identity.
The result was a suite of water-inspired names: Aqua, Atlantis, Shore, Hydro, River-AD, and Swim. These names not only linked the trials under a common narrative—the Oceana trials—but also helped convey a sense of calm, clarity, and connectivity to patients, investigators, and stakeholders.

The Oceana trials successfully launched with strong internal and external reception, driving engagement and supporting amlitelimab’s broader clinical and strategic goals.

Ultimately, this work underscores the power of brand storytelling in clinical development—where the right name system can unify complex programs, accelerate recruitment, and elevate perception of the science behind the studies.

When it comes to creating names that solve real challenges,

Brandsymbol delivers.
